Private hospitals in Mumbai can now build over five times the plot size with the government raising the floor space index (FSI) for such buildings.

A notification issued on Friday raises the built-up space for private hospital buildings in the island city by 200 percent and for those in the suburbs by 300 percent. “Already, under existing rules, the municipal commissioner can grant 100 percent extra FSI to private hospitals. With the state government deciding to allot some more FSI, private hospitals can now go up as high as five times the plot area in the suburbs and up to 5.32 times the plot area in the island city,” said a government official.
